Star, heart, leaf, and crescent moon motifs demand expert handling. They will look like a pair of pajama pants quicker than you can say, "WHAT HAVE I DONE?!" These moons were an afterthought; let's pretend they're not there.

When you realize how easy it is to cut your own hair, you can end up wielding the scissors every day. I've managed to cool it for a year now. Well, except for that one time but it was just a trim! I SWEAR, I DON'T EVEN KNOW WHERE THE SCISSORS ARE! I am such a fan of short hair but I'm trying to build character here!

I am now subsisting on a diet of journal drawings/blueprints and images of Molly Ringwald. Because, HELP ME, I do know where the scissors are.

No more buttered scones for me, mater, I'm off to copy other image makers.

My dealings with reference are cherry-picking occasions. I have regularly mentioned my fear of copying. Reinterpretation of an entire image is taboo for me. Bada bing bada boom, I am pushing myself to do it. Reference is invaluable for understanding tricky individual items like nose planes, ears, architecture, machinery, etcetera. I do try to make these images authentic, but not too hard-- so long as the medium is in my hand, my personality will come through. I find it's helpful to pepper my routine with this kind of drawing, especially when I've reached a creative impasse.

I'm also just a huge fan of Stewart Copeland's face.
